About 50% of the time when using Wind Compass it is wrong in wind speed but often has the direction the wind is coming from correct.
I often have to resort to looking up a nearby airport and checking what the aviation weather is showing in my vicinity.
As a long-time pilot and son of a WW2 Instructor Pilot, knowing wind speeds and directions was as normal for us as most folks just wanting to know what day it is.
I suspect Wind Compass gets their data from the FAA weather reporting stations that advise pilots what the winds are doing, and thus there is a time-lag in Wind Compass getting the data available to people using this app.
The other features this app has allowing you to set personal preferences make the app very useful to the "Average Joe/Jill"...
